Au Pair Training School

Cultural Care’s Au Pair Training School is a robust orientation program anchored in instructor-led courses that give au pairs the confidence and knowledge to successfully begin their exchange experience in the U.S.  Before au pairs on our program travel to the U.S., they are required to complete a 32-hour online training and orientation program administered by Cultural Care instructors. The training courses are delivered in live, synchronous formats along with assignments for au pairs to do on their own. The curriculum allows au pairs the opportunity to review child safety and development basics, to continue to practice speaking English regularly, and to build a network of peers for support and friendship.

About the curriculum

During the Cultural Care online training program, au pairs review child safety and development basics including:

Health and safety in the home

Food and nutrition

Childrearing in the U.S.

Building self-esteem in children

Developmentally appropriate activities

Adult and pediatric CPR and First Aid

CPR and First Aid

In addition to classes related to child safety and preparation for their year ahead, au pairs on the Cultural Care program complete an online CPR and First Aid course provided by the American Heart Association. After completion of this course, they will have the opportunity to pass an assessment to earn a two-year certification and will continue to have access to digital course materials.

Au pair safety and adjustment

The training school program also includes a personal safety seminar delivered by a former New York City police officer as well as workshops designed to help them adjust to living with an American family.  These workshops include topics such as the expectations of being an au pair on this exchange program, stress management, effective communication, and how to build strong relationships.

Au pairs learn about:

Experienced instructors and small class size

Our training program instructors are experienced educators and share a passion for cultural exchange. Small online class sizes allow them to give au pairs one-on-one attention and to tailor the curriculum and group work to focus on the ages of the children who will be in their care. Instructors also facilitate role-playing, in-depth discussions, and divide au pairs into workgroups so they can put what they learn into practice, address various issues, and brainstorm solutions.
